THE INDUSTRIAL & SCIENTIFIC CO. SDN BHD

The Industrial & Scientific Co.Sdn.Bhd., (ISCSB) was formed in 1951 under the name of Webb Imports which was dealing with
Insurance and Electrical goods. The company was then owned solely by Mr Alan Webb and its Head Office was at Sibu. In 1959,
the company acquired agency for Scientific Equipment and Industrial gas. It was then decided to change the company name to
The Industrial & Scientific Co. with its Head Office shifted to No. 12 Gartak Street, Kuching. In the same year an office was
opened in Singapore. At the beginning of 1960, we obtain the agency for Shell Gas. In 1963, an Engineering Division was
opened at Sekama Road, Kuching. At about the same time the company was made into a partnership of four persons comprising
Mr Alan Webb, Mrs R Webb, Mr C Webb and Mr D A Webb. In mid 1965, the Life Raft Service Station was started at the Head
Office and in the same year, it obtained approval from the D.C.A., to do Aircraft Equipment. In 1968, a branch was opened in
Miri. In 1970, the life raft station was moved to Sekama Road Office. This Division does both Marine and Aircraft Safety
Equipment. At the end of 1976, we started a life raft station in Sibu and in mid 1978, we started a life raft station in Miri. 1979,
the company reduced its partnership to two persons making it a wholly Malaysian owned. The two partners were Mr Alan Webb
and Mr C Webb. In July 1981, both Marine and Aircraft station were moved to No. 97, Tabuan Road, Kuching. In January 1982,
The Industrial & Scientific Co. Sdn. Bhd., transferred his shares to Mr Alan Webb. In September 1986, both Marine and
Aircraft stations were moved to No.63, Sekama Road, Kuching Sarawak. Towards the end of 1994, the Company was sold to Mr
Christopher Webb, Madam Susan Kho and Mr Colin MacFarlaine. The Company then bought a new premise at its present
address at No.53, Lee Chong Lin Industrial Estate, 2 1/2 Mile Off Pending Road, 93450 Kuching and both administration and
servicing has shifted operations to the new premises effective 01st January, 1995. In April 1997, The Industrial & Scientific
Co. Sdn. Bhd., purchased 24.5% of Port Marine Safety Services Sdn.Bhd., in Pasir Gudang, Johor. This company specialized in
the servicing and sales of marine safety equipment. The company was introduced and broad outline on what scope of work The
Industrial & Scientific Co. Sdn. Bhd., undertakes. In this part, we will give a detailed outline on capabilities.

In mid 1965, we were requested by the Marine Department to start a life raft service station. Mr A Webb went for a course in
Hong Kong to learn to service life rafts in mid 1965. The liferaft station was at the Head Office at No.12, Gartak Street,
Kuching until 1970. We are the main agents for Beaufort Air-Sea Equipment Ltd, RFD Beaufort Ltd, in both the Marine and
Aircraft fields.
In early 1966, we obtained Department of Civil Aviation approval to service and repair aircraft safety equipment. In the early
seventies, the life raft station was moved to 86-88 Sekama Road, Kuching. In 1972, Mr Christopher Webb took over the
management of the life raft department. At about the same time, he went to UK to obtain a course to do AVON, D.S.B., F.R.N.,
TOYO, LIFEGUARD and R.F.D.. We also received Ministry of Transport Malaysia and IMCO approval for our life raft station.
With regards to the aircraft side, we are able to service BEAUFORT, E.A.M., SWITLIK & HOOVER. The Department of Civil
Aviation has given us the approval to do R.F.D. Liferafts subject to the availability of service manuals.

In September 1983, Mr Christopher Webb left Kuching to Brunei to join OIL Industrial Services Sdn. Bhd., and Mr Colin
MacFarlaine took over the management of the life raft department. In September 1986, both the marine and aircraft life raft
stations were moved to No.63, Sekama Road, Kuching. Towards the end of 1994, the company was sold to Mr Christopher Webb,
Madam Susan Kho and Mr Colin MacFarlaine. The current scope of work of the Safety Department is to service, repair and
approved life rafts, Life Jackets in both the marine and aviation fields according to international regulations of both fields. The
Industrial & Scientific Co.Sdn.Bhd., is committed to maintain the high standard of work laid down by the Department of
Transport (Jabatan Laut Sarawak ? Kuching) and Department of Civil Aviation Malaysia.
